Founding Kokoberrin Council of Elders
The Kokoberrin Council of Elders reflects and continues the customary responsibilities held by our senior knowledge holders, Elders and family members. It is grounded in Kokoberrin kinship, where responsibility and authority are connected to our relationships with one another, our Country, waters, ancestral places, spiritual knowledge and our ancestors. These responsibilities are not simply held by individuals; they are carried through families and across generations, with senior people guiding, teaching and preparing the generations who follow them to understand and uphold their own responsibilities. This is a living practice that continues today and must remain strong into the future. Through the Council of Elders, we ensure that Kokoberrin knowledge, authority, cultural governance and responsibility to Country and waters are maintained, protected and passed from one generation to the next, so that these practices never diminish or become disconnected from our people. Mr Kenny Jimmy led the Council from 1994 to 2005 and he’s legacy lives on through the next generations.
